To stay..........for at least 3 more months.
We haven't done soccer since oldest son was 4 years old (he's turning 16 next week) so we are treading into new waters.
Soccer in the U16 (that's under 16 team for you newbies) league is a competitive sport all the way.
My son wanted to "try it out" and has found he really likes it. He started off on defense (typical newbie position I'm told) but moved up to halfback (whatever that means) mid-game.
So here is what I learned from opening day for soccer
1. Bring your chairs..........preferably with cup holders and an attached umbrella and a place to store your iPod.
2. Bring some food and at least 4 cases of ice cold water. Once the weather turns, trade the water for thermoses of coffee.
3. A blanket................for now to lay on, later to bundle up in.
4. Maps for all the various locations of where the games are held. It would be too easy for them to all be in one location.
5. A good book. In case you get stuck watching the last 45 minutes of some other kid's game because you wrote the time wrong.
6. At least one other adult who isn't constantly regurgitating the same "goal of the century" story each time a new parent sets up their chair.
That's it for now, but I'm sure there will be more to learn as the season shapes up.
Heads Up!!
