His first Summer School

As parents we are forever awed by our child's "firsts"

First tooth

First step

First day of school (or homeschool)

First crush

and then there is their first Summer School........

only this time the tears aren't mine, they're his

Yep, my 15yo is goin' to Summer School at the local college

He's taking an Algebra class.....mostly to concrete his skills since he wants to become an engineer and he knows his math skills must be greater than the average bear.

He may also be taking a Writing Course as well.......but has been waitlisted and won't know until the first day if he can get in or not.

He really does have reason to be sad......

Summer School starts just 3 measily days after the end of this school year

It lasts for 6 weeks

He has to take the bus there and back

If he gets into the other class he'll be there from 8am until 1pm 4 days a week

He is missing our yearly Mission Trip with the church in order to attend, while the rest of the family goes. His last week of school is the week we leave..........timing is everything

So, I do feel a little sorry for him........but I know it will be good for him too. He's growing up, and part of that is having to do the things we outta do even when we rather do the things we wanna do. So, I'll admit it......I'm smiling a little on the inside. Its bittersweet of course.....my son's first college class is a huge milestone and is just another reminder that his time with me is short.

Growing up is hard to do..............especially for parents!
